Going into a new field is an interesting journey of establishing your transferable skill, applying them and believing in yourself. This year I got the opportunity to work with some fantastic people in my first ever game jam experience.

It was a really exciting to be able to participate in not just my first game jam but a global game jam. This years theme was repair and it had a gorgeous inspirational video attached to it, I particularly liked the industrial sewing machine inclusions. I was privileged enough to be part of the team that created a truly moving narrative game called Piece by Piece about trying to restore something from the past and coming to terms with loss. It was beautiful to see it all our ideas and work come together and also to see the dynamic ways that other people utilised the theme in their games.

My main role within the team was to create and adapt the UI elements and organise the audio and SFX. I learnt a lot in that short weekend about the industry, Unity and different types of gamers. It was a very insightful and enjoyable weekend rooted in collaboration and both self and team care and encouragement.
