Overview

I am currently working on a potential digital collection policy, for an archive trying to consider the feasibility and preservation of both locally and externally hosted material; including websites, 3D models, software code and games.

This was written to reflect the creative nature of the digital items that are now demanding new ways of accessioning, deaccessioning, formatting and cataloging. While, considering the limitations of storage space, digital literacy and resources. This focuses on digital material as items in their own right, not as replacements for physical items, Additional much of the material I am considering is ‘Born Digital’ and will not or cannot be realised outside of a virtual platform or software.

This is an area that I am very interested in and am finding is not yet being prioritise although the Digital Preservation Coalition(DPC) are working hard to change this through workshops, training and building networks. Much work is being done in this area, it is a shame that it hasn’t happened sooner, I myself lament the loss of digital student, academic and local works and initiatives and the lack of details collection when things like code or 3D material is collected.
